LAURA WELLS ACUPUNCTURE
ACUPUNCTURE.
Acupuncture is without a doubt one of the most ancient and profound system of medicine to date. Going back thousands of years, the ancient Chinese philosophers were able to cultivate and develop this unique system of natural medicine, by studying natural law. They discovered that we are heavily effected and interconnected to and with nature, and this enabled them to study the body from an angle which coincides with nature.
By inserting hair fine needles into specific acupuncture points, on the skin surface along the patient’s meridian system, this enables a shift to begin, releasing the bodies natural chemicals for pain, stress relief and mood regulation.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) portrays a systematic approach by which the practitioner will diagnose and treat by, it is predominantly used for more physical based symptoms. TCM incorporates a combined approach with Acupuncture, Cupping, Gua sha, Moxibustion and Chinese herbs.
FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE
Are you someone who loves to be the life and soul of the party? Being the last one standing, or are you the person that likes to know where their exits are the second you walk into somewhere? Are you prone to feeling anger or do you keep things bottled up? Are you the type of person to ensure you meet others needs but neglect your own? These are the kind of attributes in people that the ancient Chinese philosophers discovered as they explored the natural world. Among this, whilst studying the seasons and their transitions, they found that everything can be split into five energy types - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
This framework is used as a style of acupuncture, and is known as Five element acupuncture which stems back to the ancient classics of Chinese medicine. Professor J R Worsley who is universally acknowledged for five element acupuncture, brought this style over from the East in the 1950s and has adhered to his traditional training, through his own personified methods of teaching, ensuring that the lineage was carried on after his death in 2003.
Five element acupuncture focuses on the emotional/spirit level of a person, in order to help the body shift back into balance.
Each element is associated with a pair of organs that work intrinsically together but systematically with all the other organs, allowing the cycle of the elements to flow accordingly. Each of the elements resides within all of us, yet having said this, there is always at least one of the elements that are out of sync and has been since we were born, this is the element that dominates and that we resonate with through our entire lives, this is known as our causative factor (CF).
The CF helps us to understand why we are the way we are, however it does not define who we are, but helps to give an insight into the cause and source of imbalance. With some patients, this isn't always so clear-cut, therefore requires the practitioner to thoroughly investigate throughout the consultation through sensory (Color, sound, emotion and odor) recognition and come up with a diagnosis to help formulate an appropriate treatment plan fitted specifically for that patient.
It is always essential to seek a fully qualified and licenced acupuncturist that understands this system of medicine so that they can provide you with the best possible treatment in the safest manner.
