FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES IT WORK?

It’s important to remember that every single person that walks through the door, has a totally different, yet unique case, every person carries their own constitution, and will present differently, to that of someone who may have a similar condition to them.

With good rapport between the practitioner and patient, commitment and willingness from the patient with their treatments, to taking on board appropriate lifestyle advice, and to have an openness to this medicine, the healing process and response, will have a far higher chance of seeing a potential promising change.

DOES IT HURT?

Ultimately no, however it is normal to feel sensations such as a dull ache, tingling, pulling or release like sensation, where the needle has been inserted into, either straight away or after the acupuncturist has manipulated the needle. In Chinese medicine termanology, this is phrased as 'DeQi'. Qi is our vital life force energy that acupuncture works with, and 'DeQi' is the arrival of Qi at the acupuncture point (this is when you will feel a sensation). This sensation ephasises the bodies response to acupuncture, through the points and it is known that the treatment does not take effect until this is felt. Some even experience sensations in the opposite side/end of their body, which again is perfectly normal.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?

Upon arrival, the patient will fill out a short health document, I then give the patient an intro on how acupuncture works and how I treat so they have a brief understanding of what the treatment involves. I will then go through the consultation, which essentially is an informal chat, asking a series of questions regarding the patients health, health history, family health etc, but the intention here is to get an understanding of who the patient is, and more so as to why and how its brought them to acupuncture in the first place.

I will then proceed in doing a pulse and tongue diagnosis, which will then be followed by the treatment. The first treatment will take around 1.5 hours to 2 hours as this includes the consultation, all following treatments will take around 1 hour.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER TREATMENT?

It's important to understand that every patient is a totally different yet unique case, so it's no wonder that a lot of people have different experiences. Some may experience effects straight after treatment or that same night, some in the following 24-72 hours. A lot of people tend to report feeling very relaxed, some may feel more tired/drowsy than usual in the evening, which tends to be followed by a much better and deeper quality of sleep, some report their symptoms begin to clear up, or some have a very short term flare up of their symptoms which then soon decreases, this is all a result of the treatment attempting to realign the bodies natural state of flow.
